Why Your Body Feels Out of Balance (Hormones, Gut & Stress Explained)

You know something isn’t right in your body… but you can’t quite explain it.

You feel off.

Your energy isn’t the same.
Your mood feels unpredictable.
Your skin, digestion, or weight might have changed…
and no matter what you try, nothing seems to fully settle.

You might have even been told everything is “normal”,
but deep down, you know your body isn’t functioning the way it used to.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not imagining it.

And more importantly, it’s not random.

When your body feels “off”

Your body isn’t broken — it’s communicating

When your body feels “out of balance”, it’s usually a combination of systems working together, not just one issue.

The three biggest areas I see affecting women are:

1. Gut health
Your gut affects everything from digestion and bloating to mood, skin, and hormone balance.

2. Hormones
From your 30s onwards, hormonal shifts can impact weight, sleep, energy, and emotions more than you might expect.

3. Nervous system & stress
If your body is constantly in a state of stress, it can disrupt digestion, hormones, sleep, and energy, even if you’re “doing everything right”.

Why it can feel so confusing

One of the hardest parts is that these symptoms don’t exist in isolation. Everything in the body is connected.

So instead of one clear issue, you might experience a mix of things:

  • Low energy

  • Bloating or digestive discomfort

  • Mood swings or anxiety

  • Cravings or irregular appetite

  • Difficulty losing weight

And when you try to fix one thing in isolation, it often doesn’t fully work because the root cause hasn’t been addressed.

The problem with quick fixes

When you feel like this, it’s natural to want a quick solution.

But quick fixes often focus on one symptom, rather than looking at the bigger picture.

This is why:

  • restrictive diets

  • cutting out food groups

  • extreme routines

can feel like they help at first… but don’t last. Because your body doesn’t need more pressure it needs the right support.

Where to start (without overwhelm)

The good news is, you don’t need to fix everything at once. In fact, trying to do too much is often what keeps you stuck.

A better place to start is with simple, supportive foundations:

  • Eating regularly and balancing your meals (blood sugar balancing)

  • Supporting your gut with nourishing, whole foods

  • Creating small moments of calm in your day (breath work / meditation)

  • Improving your sleep routine

  • Reducing overwhelm instead of adding more to your plate (organisation)

These small shifts begin to bring your body back into balance gently, and sustainably.
